Which Kailua venue has free Hawaiian music on a Saturday in October, November and December, a holiday choir concert, and the parking and trolley stop for the Christmas tree lighting? It's the Kailua Town Center parking garage, the concrete structure behind Longs.

Alexander & Baldwin's Fall 2026 Kailua Town newsletter lists four free events inside the garage between now and mid-December. It also names the garage as event parking for Adventist Health Castle's tree lighting, with a free trolley between the hospital and town. The scavenger hunts, the Thursday market and the shopping nights all happen within walking distance of it. The easiest way to plan this season in Kailua is to start with the garage and work outward.

Second Saturdays, 4 To 5:30, Behind Longs

The anchor is Kanikapila in Kailua, a free series of authentic Hawaiian music sponsored by A&B. It runs the second Saturday of every month from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Kailua Town Center parking garage. Kailua Town's 2025 calendar gave it the same monthly, second-Saturday slot, so this is an established series with new names on the bill, not a seasonal experiment.

Here's the remaining 2026 lineup:

  • Saturday, October 10: Sister Robi & Friends
  • Saturday, November 14: Kala'e & Kalena Parrish
  • Saturday, December 12: The Hawaiian Jukebox featuring Taz Vegas, Moke Boy Kamealoha and other local talents

The 4 p.m. start is what makes these shows easy to plan around. Ninety minutes of music ends at 5:30, which leaves time for dinner in town afterward. You can check the Sister Robi & Friends listing for this Saturday's details.

October Moves The Action Across Kailua Road

The second half of October spreads out from the garage. Kailua Town's free Halloween "Seek & Treat" scavenger hunt runs October 23 through 31, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Maps start at the Lau Hala Shops entrance, and completed maps go to Classic Waves Boutique at 600 Kailua Road #118. Because pickup and drop-off happen at different shops, the hunt doubles as a walking loop through town. It covers both weekends that week, ending Saturday the 31st, so families can split it over a few days.

For business owners, the Kailua Chamber of Commerce holds its October Pau Hana on Wednesday, October 21, at 5 p.m. at Please Come Again & Little Pickle.

November Fills In The Weeknights

In November the calendar picks up on Thursdays and Saturdays, and one street project lands in the middle of it.

Thursdays. The Kailua Farmers' Market at Kailua Town Center runs Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m. at 609 Kailua Road, with free parking. The Hawaii Farm Bureau calendar lists weekly dates through December 24, which falls on a Thursday this year. On November 12 the market shares the evening with A&B's annual Holiday Sip & Shop, 4 to 7 p.m., with holiday treats and sips, live entertainment, and promotions at participating Kailua Town merchants. Both events run the same three hours on the same night, so one trip into town covers produce and holiday shopping.

Saturdays. Two Saturdays stand out. On November 7, the Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle and Smart Trees Pacific hold a free Arbor Day tree giveaway in Kailua from 9 a.m. to noon. Reservations are required, so the LKOC events page is the one to bookmark. A week later comes the November Kanikapila. Then, from November 21 to 29, Kailua Town runs its Shop Small Kailua promotion: spend a total of $150 or more at Kailua Town merchants and you get a free Oceans End x Kailua Town gift. Small Business Saturday lands on November 28, in the middle of that window.

The crossing at Kuʻulei and Aulike. The City's Department of Transportation Services expects to start installing "quick-build" pedestrian safety improvements at Kuʻulei Road and Aulike Street in November 2026. It says the work should take one to two weeks, weather permitting. Right now, each uncontrolled crosswalk on Kuʻulei there is 65 feet long, crossing four lanes that carry more than 12,000 vehicles a day plus two parking lanes. The City lists the spot as a high-injury intersection and notes how close it sits to shops, services and the Kailua Library. The new layout adds a pedestrian refuge island to each crossing, so people cross one direction of traffic at a time, plus curb extensions that make waiting pedestrians easier to see. Pavement markings, signs and delineator posts do the work. The City describes this as an interim measure ahead of a planned traffic signal. The Complete Streets Kailua page has the current status. November's start date is an estimate, not a fixed date.

December Turns The Garage Into A Trolley Depot

December is when the garage is busiest. Here's the first half of the month in one place:

Date Event Where it touches the garage
Tue, Dec 1 to Tue, Dec 15 12 Days of Hawaiian-Style Christmas scavenger hunt A self-guided map around Kailua
Wed, Dec 2, 5 to 8:30 p.m. Adventist Health Castle Community Christmas Tree Lighting Event parking in the garage, free trolley to Castle
Sat, Dec 5, morning road closures Kaneohe Christmas Parade Windward Mall to Castle High School, not in Kailua
Sat, Dec 12, 4 to 5:30 p.m. Kanikapila: The Hawaiian Jukebox Inside the garage
Sun, Dec 13, 4 to 5:30 p.m. Windward Choral Society Holiday Concert Inside the garage

The tree lighting shows how the garage works as a hub. A&B's fall newsletter describes Castle's annual lighting with live entertainment and keiki activities. It lists event parking at the Kailua Town Center garage behind Longs, with free trolley service between Castle and Kailua Town Center sponsored by A&B. Last year's listing for the December 3, 2025 lighting ran the trolley between the hospital and town with a stop at the Kailua Parking Garage, and it listed the garage as parking, not as the stage. Based on last year's setup, the plan is to park in town and ride to the lighting.

That same weekend, the Kaneohe Christmas Parade appears on the City's 2026 schedule for Saturday, December 5, from Windward Mall to Castle High School. The listing marks the permit as submitted, not approved.

The following weekend the garage hosts back-to-back shows. Saturday's Kanikapila is followed on Sunday by the Windward Choral Society's family-friendly holiday concert. Admission is free, and the newsletter's only ask is "bring your voice and holiday cheer." Both run 4 to 5:30 p.m., so mid-December gives you two late afternoons of free music in the same spot, about 24 hours apart.

Where To Eat Before Or After A 5:30 Finish

Since nearly every garage event ends at 5:30 p.m., dinner nearby is part of the plan. Several of the newest options are within walking distance on Hekili Street and Kailua Road.

  • Jersey Mike's, 108 Hekili Street, Suite 102. In June, USA Today still listed this address as a planned location. The chain's own store page now lists hours of 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week.
  • New Kamana Kitchen 3, Kailua Shopping Center, 600 Kailua Road #129. Its tenant page lists daily hours of 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 9 p.m., so the dinner service opens before the music starts. Aloha State Daily reported the opening in February 2026.
  • Lotus Café, 141 Hekili Street, in the former Le Crêpe Café space, opened in November 2025.

Honolulu Magazine's 2026 openings roundup also lists Cinnamon's SweetShop and Mānoa Café by Mānoa Chocolate as Kailua openings in June. On the fitness side, the fall newsletter lists Club Pilates at 629 Kailua Road #200 as a new tenant. Embode Method, formerly Revolt Studio, has expanded into a second-floor space at 146 Hekili Street #101.

Put together, Kailua's season comes down to a short routine. Thursday market, a second-Saturday show behind Longs, and in December a trolley ride to Castle. The next show is this Saturday, October 10, at 4 p.m., with Sister Robi & Friends.
